Our Founder Fatima Zubair was inspired to found Team Terawatts, after seeing her husband Fuzlul Zubair and his team 4201 compete in the FIRST Robotic competition. At the time Fatima was a teacher and had moved to Jordan High School in 2016 and wanted to bring FIRST into an underrepresented community, so she decided to start a team and join the FRC. So, with that in 2017 Fatima founded the team with the support of college track. In the first year of the team being founded, the team did really well and made it all the way to championships. In the following years the form of the team did drop. Still when Fatima founded this team, she wanted to give more opportunities for people of color. This was supported by a varying array of mentors that supported the kid's learning process. Nevertheless, the plan was always to let the kids be more in charge of the team so they could learn more leadership skills. By empowering the kids to make decisions it really gave a voice to members.
As the team looks into the future, we look to be more competitive in the FIRST robotics field. We also hope to expand our team so we can incorporate and help more underappreciated minorities in our community. Inspiring them to enter into the stem field, becoming lifelong learners and inspire a new generation of engineers, mathematicians, biologist, psychologist and most importantly leaders.
As we expand our influence and make more connections with people in power, we will help support our members find scholarships and give them the best opportunities they can get. We will do this by going on more trips and tours of companies that are in the stem field and that are potential future jobs for many of our members.
Even though we are committed to robotics and competing in FIRST. We still see the importance of appreciating minorities in our community as many of our members are minorities. We have to team up to inspire young women into entering the stem field and feel empowered to be whoever they want to be. Here at Terawatts we see that everyone has a place and has a voice that should be heard.
As we look into the future, we know that many things will change about our team but we as a team will always be committed to being the best team we can be. As we hold ourselves to high standards and always aim to learn from our mistake here, we believe in one team one dream.
During the course of the competition, the judging panel may decide a team’s unique efforts, performance, or dynamics merit recognition.
Celebrates the Alliance that makes it to the final match of the competition.
We received this award at Beach Blitz 2019. For the most improved robot.
